Product Overview
The MC79L05ABDR2G is a low cost, three terminal, fixed negative linear voltage regulator in 8 pin SOIC package. This inexpensive, easy to use device is suitable for numerous applications requiring up to 100mA output current. Like the higher powered MC7900 series negative regulators, this regulator features internal thermal overload protection and internal short circuit current limiting, making it remarkably rugged. Thermal overload protections shuts down the circuit when subjected to an excessive power overload condition and internal short circuit protection limits the maximum current the circuit will pass. In most applications, no external components are required for operation. The MC79L05ABDR2G is useful for on-card regulation or any other application where a regulated negative voltage at a modest current level is needed. This regulator offers substantial advantage over the common resistor/zener diode approach.

- Complementary positive regulators offered (MC78L00 series)
- Maximum input voltage of -30V
- Maximum input regulation of 150mV (-7VDC >= VI >= -20VDC) & 100mV (-8VDC >= VI >= -20VDC) at 25°C
- Maximum load regulation of 60mV ( 1mA <= IO <= 100mA) and 30mV (1mA <= IO <= 40mA) at TJ = +25°C
- Ripple rejection of 49dB at -8VDC >= VI >= -18VDC, f = 120Hz, TJ = +25°C
- Dropout voltage of 1.7VDC at IO = 40mA, TJ = +25°C
- Input bias current of 6mA at TJ = +25°C
- Output noise voltage of 40µV at TA = +25°C, 10Hz <= f <= 100KHz
- Operating temperature range from -40° to +125°C
